Whether you are reconnecting with loved ones abroad, creating memories while exploring the world, or conducting business overseas, don’t let unforeseen circumstances ruin your travel experiences.

Safeguard yourself from the unexpected and enjoy peace of mind with travel insurance that will protect you from risks and financial losses related to medical emergencies, trip cancellations, loss of personal belongings, and disruptions while travelling overseas.

Planning an upcoming trip overseas? Get your travel insurance from JN General Insurance.

Here are eight things your travel insurance covers:

1. Medical Expenses

You will receive compensation for medical expenses associated with hospitalisation, extra travel and accommodation costs, medical escorts, as well as for minor expenses, such as phone calls, food and taxi fares incurred during your trip. Additionally, in the unfortunate case of your passing, it includes coverage for facilitating the return of your remains to Jamaica or covering burial or cremation costs abroad.

2. Cancellation Cover

It safeguards your investment by reimbursing you for all unused travel and accommodation expenses or which you were under contract to pay in the event of an unavoidable trip cancellation.  These circumstances include one of the following in relation to you or your travel companion: medical reasons validated by a doctor; death; the illness, injury, being called for jury duty or as a witness; unforeseen redundancy; police instructions to remain home due to significant damage to your residence or business or death of a close relative or business associate in Jamaica.  Additionally, if your passport or visa is lost or stolen seven days before your departure date and there isn’t enough time for an emergency replacement, this policy has you covered.

This coverage is applicable from the policy’s start date or the date of trip booking, whichever is later.

3. Curtailment (Cutting short your trip)

This covers all reasonable travel expenses and any unused pre-booked travel and accommodation costs, such as excursions and car hire fees if you must urgently return to Jamaica during your trip for one of the following reasons:

  • (In relation to you or your travel companion):  Illness or injury validated by a doctor, death, being called for jury duty or as a witness, experienced kidnapping or hostage situations due to aircraft or transport hijacking, being instructed to return home by the police due to serious damage to your home or place of business in Jamaica
  • Illness, injury or death of the person you had planned to stay with, or the person is called for jury service or as a witness in a court of law
  • Illness, injury or death of a close relative or business associate in Jamaica
  • You spend more than 24 hours as an inpatient in hospital due to an accident, illness or injury during your trip

4. Personal Possessions, Luggage, Money, and Passport

Coverage is provided for the loss, theft, or damage to personal possessions and luggage, or loss or theft of money. It also includes extra expenses incurred to replace lost, stolen, or damaged passports or travel documents abroad, as well as replacing essential items such as medication and clothing due to luggage delays exceeding 12 hours at your final destination.

5.  Abandoned Trip, Delayed and Missed Departures

Coverage is provided for various travel disruptions, including delayed or missed departures. If your departure from Jamaica or return to Jamaica is delayed by 12 hours or more after the

departure time shown on your ticket, due to reasons such as strikes, weather conditions impacting public transport, or mechanical issues with your chosen mode of transportation (aircraft, train, or sea vessel), you will be compensated.

Furthermore, in the event of a delayed departure of more than 12 hours at the outset of your trip from Jamaica, you have the option to abandon your trip and receive compensation. This option applies to delays caused by the aforementioned factors.

6. Personal Accident

If you suffer injuries and as a direct result, you become disabled or die within 12 months, payment will be made as per policy terms.

7. Personal Liability

Payment will be made if you are found legally liable to compensate for any claim or series of claims arising from any one event that causes accidental injury, illness or death to someone or loss or damage to someone else’s property that occurred during your trip.

8. Catastrophe (Disaster)

If, during your trip, you are forced to move from your pre-booked and pre-paid accommodation because of one of the following events: fire, lightning, explosion, earthquake, tidal wave, storm, avalanche, hurricane, flood or medical epidemic, the necessary extra travel and accommodation expenses will be paid for to allow you to continue with your trip or return to Jamaica.

Travel insurance is your indispensable companion for any overseas trip. It provides the peace of mind that comes from knowing you are protected against unexpected setbacks.
