Disaster Preparedness

Being prepared for a disaster is important! Disasters can happen at any time and it is critical for you to know what disasters and hazards could affect you, how to get emergency information or alerts, where to go if you and your family need to evacuate.

Disasters can take many different forms, and can cause disruption hourly to days or weeks of ongoing destruction. Below is a list of the various types of disasters:

Earthquakes

Hurricanes and Tropical Storms

Drought and water shortage

Emergency Diseases (pandemic)

Thunderstorm and Lightening

Landslides

Flood

Among the most powerful natural disasters are hurricanes and tropical storms because of their size and destructive potential. Earthquakes can strike at any time without warning, while flooding is the most common of natural hazards.

Your family may not be together if a disaster strikes, so it is important to put a plan together and ensure that all members of the household knows the plan.
