Earthquakes are sudden and unpredictable events that can have a significant impact on your home and contents.  Therefore, being prepared is important to ensure the safety of our loved ones and your valuable assets.

As your trusted insurance provider, JN General Insurance is not only committed to protecting your home and contents, but also providing proactive measures to safeguard your home and family during an earthquake.

Here are some valuable tips to minimise your risk of damage and injury during an earthquake:

Practise Earthquake Drills at Home

Regularly rehearse safety measures, obtained from reputable sources, with your family to help them react calmly and swiftly in the event of an earthquake.

Secure Heavy Items

The items in our homes often become unexpected hazards during an earthquake. Heavy furniture, appliances, and decor can easily topple over, causing injury or damage.  Assess your home for items that may pose a risk and ensure that they are safely secured.

Know How to Shut off Utilities
Familiarise yourself and your family on how to shut off gas, electricity, and water at the main supply point. Keep the necessary tools, such as a wrench, readily accessible.

Maintain an Emergency Kit

Ensure you have an emergency kit stocked with essential supplies such as non-perishable food, water, first-aid supplies, flashlights, batteries, and a battery-powered radio. Make sure to periodically check and replenish the supplies as needed.

Create an Inventory
Document your valuable possessions and maintain a detailed home inventory. Take photographs or videos of your belongings to assist with insurance claims if damage occurs. This will make the claims process smoother and more efficient.

Ensure Up-to-Date Insurance Policy

It is crucial to regularly review your insurance policy to ensure that it is up to date so you can recover quickly in the aftermath of an earthquake.

In the event you experience any damage, submit a claim within 30 days.  If you require a JNGI representative to visit your damaged property immediately of if you have any questions, please contact JNGI Mobile Catastrophe Response Service at 888-225-5636.

By following these guidelines and taking proactive measures, you can significantly reduce the risk of damage and injury during an earthquake. A little preparation goes a long way in safeguarding your home and loved ones from avoidable accidents.
