The Road Traffic Act 2018, which will repeal and replace the Road Traffic Act 1938 was recently passed by the Senate.  The legislation which introduces some new offences and increased fines for some breaches, is not likely to take effect until the first part of 2019, as the Government wants to ensure that the Regulations governing the Act are ready before it is signed into law.

Some of the major changes to the Act are the ban on the use of hand-held mobile phones and video equipment while operating a motor vehicle and the use of electronic equipment to capture specified offences with the registered owner of the vehicle liable for the resulting traffic ticket.

As a service to you our valued customers, we have compiled a list of some offences and fines in the new Act.
